    POSITION PURPOSE
    Under the general direction of the Department Administrator, independently perform a variety of complex administrative assignments for the Department of Biochemistry. This is a front desk position and represents the department to students, visitors and faculty. Excellent professional, interpersonal and customer service skills are a must.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Duties include reception and telephone management, building access management for the department, catering for meetings and seminars and special events planning, managing departmental mail and deliveries, maintaining office supplies and other general office duties.

    • Provide administrative support to the Department Administrator, Assistant to the Chair and other members of the administrative unit as needed, including coordinating and scheduling meetings, technical support, correspondence, and data base management.

    • Provide logistical and administrative support for the Academic Programs Director for student events, recruitment activities and other related tasks.

    • Oversee and execute a variety of office operations, including: ordering furniture, supplies and equipment within departmental guidelines, coordinating office moves and surplus procedures, working with UW facilities and physical plant to coordinate maintenance and repair. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Requires High School/ GED AND two years of office or administrative support experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are a must.

    • Experience with computers including standard office programs, email, and the ability to use the Internet.

    • Excellent time-management and organizational skills and the ability to manage work priorities across multiple complex projects and meet stringent timelines.

    • Strong collaborative skills to work with a large, diverse group. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Advanced computer skills, including competence with Excel.

    • Attention to detail and the ability to perform tasks with precision and accuracy in an intense work environment.

    • Two to three years experience in the academic /research environment or other equivalent experience. This would be an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate who wants to use their organizational and people skills in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

    • BA or AA degree preferred.
