POSITION PURPOSE The primary function of this position is to organize system management and provide system updates for control system hardware and software critical to the operations at the UW Medical Cyclotron Facility (UWMCF). UWMCF resides within the UW Medical Center and centers around a multi-particle/variable energy cyclotron, supporting various clinical, research, and commercial programs. Duties include control system and ancillary system programming and scripting, network security analysis and troubleshooting, hardware and software specification and procurement, and other related activities as needed. This is an advanced level position for a system programmer/administrator professional.

This position independently evaluates, selects and applies standardized scientific or engineering procedures and techniques; assignments usually have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of a number of variables; manages dozens of systems within the network. The incumbent relies on experience and knowledge, and exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices in making adaptations and modifications. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position, or equivalent graduate level education.

The University of Washington has the only operating fast neutron therapy facility, the only US facility able to produce the novel therapeutic isotope 211-At for clinical trials, and the only regional facility able to provide medium energy protons and fast neutrons for radiation effects testing. This position is absolutely critical to supporting all of these programs. These programs are key to multimillions in grant funding at UW and FHCRC and directly affect UWMC patient care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Systems Programming and Administration (100%):

• Independently plan, schedule, and perform facility computing hardware and software upgrades to avoid obsolesce and keep facility secure.

• Manage programming of control system software platforms including Linux, EPICS, Dicom.

• Install and modify software packages into systems to assist engineering and research staff.

• Investigate novel software packages and platforms that assist research programs and engineering projects.

• Manage multiple devices within the network

• Analyze technical debt and update/replace as necessary.

• Manage control consoles and displaysGuide engineering and research staff, regarding system administration and programming activities to ensure that correct and industry standard procedures are followed; provides direction to assure completion of technical tasks and projects. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, mathematics, or related field PLUS 3 years' experience in a related area OR Equivalent education/experience

• Knows and effectively uses the fundamental and advanced concepts, practices and procedures of system programming and administration; continues development of technical expertise and knowledge through experience and application to keep facility systems secure and hedge against obsolesce.

• Network hardware configuration

• LINUX OS and network security

• Programming languages: C (and build systems autoconf, automake, make), Python (and python2 for compatibility), LISP

• DICOM

• Database: postgresql

• libvirt, virtualization, lxc containers

• IP routing and namespaces, bridges

• Netfilter (nftables)

• Linux kernel internals, dkms, modules rebuilding

• Version control with git and svn DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Familiarity with tls and certificates, libssl, gnutls

• Kerberos

• SSO and 2FA

• X- and Wayland desktops

• Rust, go
