  • Microsoft Azure delivers the latest hardware and software platforms to power cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms of the future. The Host Networking team is connecting these exciting new hardware platforms at hyper-fast speeds using our world-class Software Defined Networking (SDN) data path. The Host Networking team is searching for a software engineering leader which will ensure that new platforms will continue to meet the ever-increasing networking needs of our customers.

    As a Principal Software Engineering Lead in the Host Networking team, you will grow your engineering and organizational skills by building the teams and systems which ensure networking performs at the highest performance and reliability as a fundamental infrastructure service across all of Azure's new hardware platforms. You will become an expert in new hardware innovation, network workloads, performance analysis, cloud-scale development and automation which will allow you to have a broad impact across many services and offerings. This role and team are directly tied to the growth of Azure and AI business.

    Responsibilities

    • Leads product development of new features and qualification systems which ensure customer expectations of network performance and reliability are met by new Azure platforms.

    • Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders and determines necessary requirements to deliver new compute hardware platforms from a networking perspective for performance, reliability, and supportability.

    • Lead engineers to optimize, debug, develop feature code to monitor and improve network performance.

    • Create group project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders and effectively drives teams to execute efficiently.

    • Recruit and grow engineering teams utilizing effective management practices of modeling, coaching, caring.

    • Guides team and acts as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), working on call to remediate customer's service degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

    • 2+ years of automation or service ownership experience.

    Other Qualifications:

    • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:?

    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    • OR equivalent experience.

    • 4+ years people management experience.

    • Knowledge of software-defined-networking (SDN) architecture and design.

    • Experience debugging operating system internal components (drivers, kernel modules, IO stacks, etc.).

    Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
