    We are looking for Research Scientists to join the Robotics team whose mission is to build "Embodied AI" - a robot brain capable of turning language instructions into useful physical actions - to improve the lives of billions of people in the physical world.

    The Role

    Research Scientists work on a diverse and stimulating range of projects including: developing algorithms and prototype applications, providing software design and programming support to research projects, along with architecting and implementing software libraries. Our Research Scientists are pivotal to the development and ongoing improvement of our research through the computational implementation of our latest theoretical work.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Providing algorithmic, implementation and theoretical expertise to research projects - pairing closely with Research Engineers to develop large scale robust state of the art AI systems.

    • Digest and understand complex research papers, theory and thinking, with an ability to write algorithms from scratch. This role is pivotal in training, iterating and improving the performance of our agents.

    • Own, report and present research developments and experimental status and results clearly and efficiently both internally and externally, verbally and in writing to both the immediate and broader research teams.

    • Architect and implement software libraries to allow our research to improve and scale.

    • Implement and evaluate algorithms - acting as a key contributor to the development and iteration throughout the research cycle.

    About You

    In order to set you up for success as a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

    • PhD in Computer Science or Robotics; or equivalent practical experience

    • Experience with Deep Learning pipelines, training perception systems and/or Large Language or Vision Language Models

    • Experience working with simulators and real-world robots

    In addition, the following would be an advantage:

    • Research track record in robotic manipulation, robot safety

    • Research track record in one or more of the following topics: Generative AI, Robust Learning, Uncertainty quantification, Mechanistic Interpretability, AI Alignment.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $133,000 - $240,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
