Leaving Your Admin Job May not be Your Smartest Move

Tired of your administrative job? Grass looking greener on the other side? Ready to pack up and leave? Before you cut the umbilical, consider a few facts about most admin jobs.

To begin with, you need to come to grips with the fact that no job is perfect. Most admin jobs will always have their good days and bad.

If you're admin assistant, you'll have many challenges as you learn the ropes. Even after several years of experience, you'll more than likely be exhausted at the end of the day. And there will always be one or two co-workers you'll always have problems with.

If you're an admin manager, chances are, you'll have to work with assistants right out of junior college or high school. There will always be "kids" who think they know it all. Or those with too many tattoos or piercings. Many will lack the motivation to get things done on time. Or they'll want to take too much time off. Others will spend hours playing video games or texting their friends on their cell phones.

You may also have problems with your boss who may expect you to "get the troops in line," stay late, and work weekends to get out those "TPS reports." You may even be stuck with an incompetent boss whose load you'll have to carry. Or an unappreciative boss who works you to death and forgets your annual review.

All these challenges may cause you to wonder why you took the job in the first place. And you'll be tempted to leave. But keep in mind that every job has its challenges and headaches. And leaving in this bad economy is not the smartest move. Even if you find another admin job, you may be leaving one set of problems only to be faced with a whole new set of headaches.
