    Job Description

    The role of the Professional Registered Nurse is to provide quality nursing care in collaboration with the medical staff and within the guidelines of the New Jersey State Nurse Practice Act. It is the responsibility of the Professional Nurse to implement the Hospital's Mission and goals through established policies, procedures and performance improvement activities. Implementation of these goals occurs through organization and administration of individualized age specific professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital. The understanding of the principles of growth and development will be incorporated to assess each patient's age specific needs and determine age specific treatment modalities. Organize and administers individualized age specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care. Provides nursing care as directed by medical staff and in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the hospital and the State Nurse Practice Act. Maintains the standards of nursing care as established. Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning. Participates in unit Quality Improvement evaluation activities. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment.

    Additional Requirements

    To qualify you must have Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor Degree (preferred) Additional experience required based upon specific department needs. Current New Jersey RN licensure required. BLS Healthcare Provider. RN s are required to work every other weekend. Assists as directed in PI activities including data collection and analysis. Complies with unit and departmental scheduling guidelines. Correctly complies with all national patient safety goals/ risk reduction procedures and associated policies as applicable to scope of practice. Delegates and prioritizes work assignments according to the individual associate s competence and patient care needs. Demonstrates competency in pain management by recording the patient s pain intensity, implementing and evaluating interventions based on the plan of care and providing patient/family education. Ensures a safe environment in aspects of care, equipment and treatment. Evaluates effectiveness, interventions and revises plan of care accordingly. Gives input to Director/Manager regarding new staff hires. Gives input to Director/Manager regarding peer evaluations. Gives input to Director/Manager regarding unit disciplinary issues with other staff. Gives input to Director/Manager regarding unit recruitment and retention issues. Identifies and reports potential and actual patient safety issues. Implements and maintains IV therapy on patients according to Hospital policy and standards of care. Implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department. Initiates/develops multidisciplinary care plans and discharge plans in accordance with department standards and using appropriate tools. Integrates psychosocial, physical, nutritional, and rehabilitation needs of the patient in-patient care and discharge planning. Manages the care of the post-operative/pre-procedural patient according to Hospital policies and standards of care. Manages the care of the pre-operative/pre-procedural patient according to Hospital policies and standards of care. Performs assessment and reassessment of patients according to applicable department standards and identified tools. Performs interventions in accordance with current policy and procedures, safety guidelines and infection control principles. Proficient in medication administration, including use of patient identifiers. Proficient in the use of all CMMC documentation tools i.e.: vital sign graphic, nursing notes, restraint flow sheet, pain management. Proficient in the use of the Fall Prevention Protocol. Provides patient/family education according to the plan of care and documents same. Serves as a preceptor to new staff hires. Sets goals and formulates appropriate multidisciplinary interventions to meet these goals. Transmits pertinent patient information to appropriate individual (i.e., MD, supervisor, discharge planner, etc.). Utilizes the nursing process with a multidisciplinary approach in the delivery of patient care.
